What is the dosage for Diastat Pediatric?

Diastat is a pediatic rectal gel containing the drug diazepam. It comes in 2.5 milligras and 5 milligram dosages. Dosages are based on a patient's weight (0.5 milligrams per kilogram per dose)  There are dual adult and pediatric gels available (Diastat Acudial).  Diastat Acudial allows for more dosing options, especially in older children and young adults.

The dose should be individualized for Diastat Pediatric. It is based on weight:

  • Less than 2 years old it is not recommended
  • 2-5yrs: 0.5mg/kg
  • 6-11yrs:0.3mg/kg
  • greater than 12years:0.2mg/kg         

may give second dose 4-12 hours  after first dose.
