Who should take hydrocortisone?

Hydrocortisone is used to prevent tissue inflammation and treat symptoms of inflammation of the skin, organs, muscles, and joints. Before prescribing hydrocortisone, your doctor will want to carefully review your medical history and discuss your current health conditions and use of medications (prescription and over-the-counter). When used with children a doctor will want to monitor the child's dosing carefully for signs of side effects such as slowed growth. Adults and children can use over-the-counter (OTC) lotions and creams as directed by their doctor. It's important to follow the directions as noted on the medications packaging. OTC hydrocortisone lotions and creams are for external use only.
