What should I know about Derma-Smoothe/FS before using it?

Derma-Smoothe/FS (fluocinolone) contains peanut oil. Although it hasn't been known to cause allergic reactions in people with peanut allergies, you should still let your doctor know if you have a peanut allergy before using Derma-Smoothe/FS. It's also important to use Derma-Smoothe/FS exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Because it's a topical corticosteroid, Derma-Smoothe/FS may be absorbed by the skin and can cause side effects throughout the body. To reduce the risk for negative side effects, only use it for as long as your doctor recommends. Children are more likely to absorb more of this medication, which can lead to serious side effects such as growth delays. Because of this, Derma-Smoothe/FS isn't recommended for children, especially infants under three months of age.
