How do I take hydrocortisone?

Depending on your prescription, you may be taking hydrocortisone tablets or capsules, using a topical cream, or receiving injections. When taking oral or using topical medication, use your medication exactly as prescribed. Do not take less or more of your medication without your doctor's approval. You can take oral doses with or without food. If the medication upsets your stomach then it may help to take it after eating. Depending on your prescription, your doctor may have to slowly decrease your hydrocortisone medication to avoid symptoms of withdrawal. To reduce the risk of drug interaction when beginning other medications, your doctor may need to adjust your hydrocortisone dosage over time.
