What is Americaine?

Americaine is one of many brand names for a topical pain and itch reliever, benzocaine. It comes as a hemorrhoid ointment that relieves pain and itching. It may also be prescribed for other rectal problems that cause burning, itching, or pain. Americaine also comes as a spray for skin irritants and insect bites, causing numbness at the point where it's applied.
