No common side effects have been reported by Americaine users. You may experience slight tenderness, redness, or stinging, or find small, dry white flakes at the site of application. Let your doctor know right away if you experience any of the following side effects, as they may be signs of a medical emergency: an allergic reaction, such as hives or an itchy rash, swelling around the mouth or face, or chest tightness and difficulty breathing; rectal bleeding; swelling or pain at the site of application; or weakness, dizziness, fast heart rate, trouble breathing, or skin that turns gray or blue.
