What should I know before taking DHEA?

Before taking DHEA, you should know that DHEA may affect certain medical conditions, particularly those related to hormones, like breast or uterine cancer, endometriosis or uterine fibroids, and prostate cancer. You should not use DHEA if you are pregnant or nursing. It may complicate any kind of preexisting liver condition or create liver damage in people who consume large amounts of alcohol. You should also know that DHEA may influence psychosis and interact with medicines used to treat psychosis. If you are taking insulin, triazolam for insomnia, and many other prescription medications, you should not take DHEA.
