What is fluoxymesterone?

Fluoxymesterone is an androgenic hormone similar to testosterone. It is administered to men with low testosterone levels and can be used to treat delayed puberty in boys. Fluoxymesterone is also used to treat advanced breast cancer in women who are one to five years postmenopausal. Fluoxymesterone stimulates the growth of male sex organs and helps to maintain male secondary sex characteristics. Doctors do not yet understand how fluoxymesterone works to treat breast cancer. Fluoxymesterone comes in an oral tablet that is usually taken three to four times daily.
