What are possible side effects of Zydone?

The most common side effects of the prescription pain medication Zydone (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) include light-headedness, dizziness, sedation, nausea and vomiting. These symptoms may be more pronounced if you are walking around and may improve if you lie down. Call your doctor if these or any of the following less common side effects are severe or persistent:
  • sleepiness and/or lethargy
  • mental health symptoms such as cloudy thinking, anxiety, fear, feeling uneasy or unwell
  • constipation
  • trouble urinating or urinating completely
  • skin rash or itching
  • blood test abnormalities -- low platelet or white blood cell count
If Zydone is taken for a long period of time, you may develop a tolerance to the drug, and it may not work as well to relieve pain as it did at first. Call your doctor, who may recommend tapering your dose of Zydone in order to switch to another medication. Do not take a higher dose of Zydone or take it more frequently than recommended by your doctor. Taking too much Zydone or taking it too often may cause you to experience an overdose, with potentially serious effects including:
  • slowed, irregular or shallow breathing
  • slowed heartbeat
  • flaccid muscles
  • cold and/or clammy skin
  • stupor
  • coma
  • serious liver damage
  • kidney damage
  • heart attack
  • seizures
  • death
If you take too much Zydone, call your doctor or 911 right away. Do not wait to develop symptoms.
