What are the side effects of meperidine?

Meperidine can cause a variety of side effects. Seek emergency medical treatment if you have symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as hives, swelling in the face, throat, lips or tongue or trouble breathing. Call your doctor right away if you experience serious side effects, such as fainting or lightheadedness, dizziness or weakness, confusion, clammy skin, convulsions, slow heart rate or shallow breathing. Call your doctor if the following side effects become persistent or bothersome: decreased sex drive, itching, decreased urination, sweating, dry mouth, headaches or dizziness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting or constipation.
