How should I take oxandrolone (Oxandrin)?

You should take oxandrolone exactly as directed by your doctor. Adults typically receive a total of 2.5 milligrams (mg.) to 20 mg. a day for two to four weeks. It can be taken either two or four times a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose depending on your progress.

Oxandrolone (Oxandrin) is a man-made (synthetic) anabolic steroid that is derived from the male hormone testosterone. Oxandrolone increases the amount of protein your body makes, which helps it to build muscle. It is a useful adjunct to therapy for people who are involuntarily underweight. This can occur following surgery, trauma or during chronic viral disease such as HIV. It is also useful for people who take corticosteroids regularly, which tend to cause muscle wasting. It can also help reduce pain from the bone-thinning disease osteoporosis.

It can be acquired only by prescription and should be used only for involuntary weigh loss. It is not intended for athletic performance enhancement.

Because people respond differently to this medicine, your doctor will prescribe the dose that's best for you.
