Why is amblyopia also called lazy eye?

Amblyopia received its lazy eye nickname because of a common symptom of the eye condition. When affected by amblyopia, the brain begins favoring one eye over the other. The neglected eye may begin wandering, or not moving with the other eye because it's so disconnected from the brain. This is why people began referring to the condition as lazy eye.
