How does patching treat amblyopia?

When someone suffers from amblyopia (lazy eye) one eye has worse vision than the other. Patching is a common treatment option. By placing a patch over the stronger eye, the brain is forced to use the weakened eye. This forced use of the lazy eye can restore vision in it.
