What foods can commonly cause skin allergies?

Eating certain foods can cause skin allergy symptoms like hives or rashes. Some of the most common foods that cause skin allergies include eggs, fish and shellfish, nuts and fruits. Milk and wheat may also cause allergic reactions that affect the skin. The preservatives or dyes in certain foods can also cause skin allergies in some people. Depending on the person—and on the food—it may take a large amount of the food to cause a reaction, but sometimes, a strong reaction might occur even if only a tiny bit of the food is eaten.

While some foods may help ease allergy symptoms, others may aggravate them. Research suggests that alcohol, refined grains, red and cured meats and foods high in saturated fat and sugar can worsen allergy symptoms by worsening inflammation.
