What are the signs of alcohol dependence?

Addiction to alcohol involves both psychological and physical dependence on the drug. The signs of dependence include having withdrawal symptoms such as depression, anxiety, irritability, nausea, sweating, and sleeping problems when you stop using alcohol. Another sign is continuing to drink in spite of the negative effect alcohol has on your life. A third sign is tolerance—the need to drink more and more to achieve the same effect.
