Adrenal gland disorders occur for a number of reasons. Cushing's syndrome occurs when the adrenal glands produce excess cortisol. Addison's disease occurs when the adrenal gland produce too little cortisol. Other adrenal gland disorders can occur as a result of tumors in the adrenal gland, or as a result of over-production or under-production of other hormones manufactured by the adrenal glands.
