What are productive ways to respond to a diagnosis of ADHD in my child?

What a diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) should mean for the child, parents, and teachers is an opportunity to explore and recognize the child's differences and respond appropriately to those differences. In short, parents and teachers can be responsive to the label rather than passively accepting it along with its baggage. One simple adjustment parents and teachers can make is to be more concrete and less abstract, for example incorporating project-based learning into the child's education. Also, children with ADHD can be helped along by being given more time for transitions and having their greater need for physical movement respected.
