What are symptoms of impulsivity in children with ADHD?

According to the Pediatrics by Osborn, et al, child with ADHD often show the following symptoms of impulsivity:

  • fidgets or squirms
  • inappropriately leaves seat
  • inappropriately runs or climbs
  • has difficulty playing quietly
  • is on the go
  • talks excessively
  • blurts out answers
  • has difficulty waiting for turn
  • interrupts or intrudes on others

Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) who are impulsive may have the following behaviors:
  • act without thinking
  • speak out of turn
  • run or walk into the street without checking for traffic
  • exhibit difficulty taking turns
  • show impatience when waiting for something
  • blurt out the answers to questions before it is time
  • behave disruptively
