How does ADHD affect teenagers?

Douglas E. Severance, MD
Family Medicine
Teens with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) usually have less trouble with hyperactivity symptoms, but they may have more trouble staying on top of schoolwork and being more independent. Teens with ADHD may have low self-esteem and feel that people just do not understand them. They may have difficulties with interpersonal relations and find it hard to make and keep friends.

Teens with ADHD may also have additional disorders, such as depression, disruptive behavior, anxiety, sleep disorders, and substance abuse.
