How does acromegaly affect women differently than men?

While many of the symptoms of acromegaly are the same for men and women, some symptoms are gender specific. Most women with acromegaly experience irregular menstruation. Women may begin to lactate even if they are not pregnant or breastfeeding, though this has been reported in some men as well.
