Can laser treatments be combined with other acne treatments?

Laser and intense pulsed light treatment are often very successfully combined with other, mostly topical, treatments for acne. When the procedures are completed, the topical treatments are continued as maintenance therapy to prevent the recurrence of acne. In general, retinoids are stopped for approximately 4 to 5 days before a laser/intense pulsed light treatment and then restarted 3 to 4 days after the treatment. Other medications such as topical antibiotics or benzoyl peroxide may be stopped for 1 to 2 days around the procedure depending on the skin sensitivity.
