Few youths escape their teen years without a pimple or two, but only a small number develop severe acne. Most research has found that roughly 80% of teens develop acne. Some carry the problem into their 20s. However, a 2008 study of 563 boys and girls aged 13 through 19 found that 6.5% had severe acne. Fortunately, there are effective treatments for even the most serious cases.
