How should a guy shave when he has acne?

It's not easy to shave your face if you have acne, but some cautionary tips may help. Many dermatologists (doctors that treat problems with the skin, hair, and nails) recommend the following shaving tips for men with acne:
  • Choose either an electric razor or a safety razor with a sharp blade.
  • Wash your face with lukewarm water to soften the skin and the rough facial hairs.
  • Shave your skin gently with a very light stroking motion.
  • Avoid shaving the acne, which can spread bacteria and cause the acne to worsen.
  • Avoid making cuts or nicks that can irritate the facial skin and trigger acne breakouts.

If you are a guy with acne, shaving can feel like an Olympic event as you adeptly avoid nicking the moguls on your face and neck. Here are some tips to minimize nicks and help you get a gold-medal shave:

• If you like using a razorblade, always use a sharp one so it doesn’t get hung up on hairs, which can cause irritation. You may need to try a few brands before finding the one that works best for you.

• If you use a razorblade, apply a shaving cream. It helps the razor glide smoothly.

Whether you use an electric razor or a razor blade:

• Before you start shaving, soften the skin and hair with warm water. Some people like to do this in the shower.

• Don’t try and cut off the zit. Instead, navigate the terrain gently and do just one pass.

•Always go in the direction the hairs grow, with the grain, down not up.
