Should my daughter with acne wear her hair away from her face?

Dr. Mehmet Oz, MD
Cardiology (Cardiovascular Disease)
Wearing her hair off of her face is a good strategy for your daughter to minimize acne breakouts. Hair can transfer oils from the scalp to the face, raising the risk of blemishes. Pulling her hair back in a ponytail or a loose-fitting headband may be best. She should avoid wearing very tight headbands, however, because they can lead to acne mechanica, blemishes that result when the skin is covered or aggravated by heat or friction. Consult your dermatologist for more tips on minimizing acne breakouts.
