When can I stop taking Vasotec?

Because Vasotec (enalapril) controls high blood pressure but doesn't cure it, you may stay on it for the rest of your life. However, it's also possible that you may stop taking it at some point—for instance, if you're able to get your blood pressure under control through lifestyle changes, if Vasotec fails to reduce your blood pressure or if it causes serious or bothersome side effects.

Do not stop taking Vasotec before talking with your doctor: If you stop suddenly, your blood pressure may spike. This is dangerous for a number of reasons. For one, it raises the risk of your body’s largest blood vessel (aorta) tearing, which can be fatal.
