What should I avoid while taking Capoten?

If you're taking Capoten (captopril), you should avoid sweating heavily or becoming dehydrated, as either can reduce the amount of fluid in your body and cause your blood pressure to decrease. Vomiting and diarrhea may also decrease blood pressure while taking Capoten, so if you experience either, call your doctor.

Do not take potassium supplements or use salt substitutes that contain potassium while you're on Capoten. Doing so could cause the level of potassium in your blood to increase to dangerous levels.

Capoten (captopril) can interact with alcohol and increase the light-headedness and drowsiness that are potential side effects of the drug, so it's wise not to drink while taking it.
