What should seniors know before using Altace?

Before taking Altace (ramipril) to treat high blood pressure, seniors should know that studies have found its effectiveness does not decrease with age. Altace is also used to reduce the risk of stroke or heart attack due to cardiovascular problems and to treat people who develop heart failure after a heart attack.

People of any age who have congestive heart failure or reduced kidney function are at higher risk for complications when taking Altace, including an unsafe drop in blood pressure. If you have either of these conditions, your doctor should monitor you closely while you are taking Altace.
