What should I avoid while taking Vasotec?

If you're taking Vasotec (enalapril), a drug to treat high blood pressure or heart failure, you should avoid starting any other drugs (prescription or over-the-counter), vitamins or dietary supplements without talking with your doctor first. You should be especially sure not to take potassium supplements or use with salt substitutes that contain potassium unless your doctor okays it, because either of these in combination with Vasotec can dangerously raise your blood level of potassium.

Avoid getting dehydrated because doing so while on Vasotec can make your blood pressure fall too low.

Because Vasotec may pose risks to a developing fetus, you should avoid becoming pregnant (or, in the case of men, having your partner become pregnant) while on this medicine. Avoid breastfeeding while taking Vasotec.
