Is it safe to use salt substitutes while I am taking Vasotec?

You should not use a salt substitute that contains potassium if you are taking Vasotec (enalapril), a drug to treat high blood pressure. The combination of Vasotec and a potassium-containing salt substitute can cause too much potassium to build up in the body. This condition, called hyperkalemia, can cause serious health issues, such as kidney damage and heart rhythm problems.
