How can I minimize the side effects of Altace?

You can minimize the potential side effects of Altace (ramipril) by taking it as prescribed. Follow your doctor's directions, especially about checking your blood pressure.

You should also discuss with your doctor any other medications and supplements you are taking. This can reduce the risk of interactions. Also tell your doctor about any allergies you have to this drug or other medications, as well as other allergies, including allergies to insect venom (bee stings).

You should have your kidney function tested before taking this drug. Drink adequate fluids, especially if you are experiencing diarrhea, vomiting or excessive sweating. If you're taking Altace, becoming dehydrated may make your blood pressure fall too low, which can cause light-headedness and fainting.
