Benazepril (Lotensin), an angiotensin-converting enzyme -- or ACE inhibitor -- treats high blood pressure by decreasing the formation of angiotensin II (a substance that constricts arteries and raises blood pressure). When levels of angiotensin II are lowered, arteries relax and blood pressure is lowered.
