What is the immediate post operative care after tummy tuck?

Our tummy tuck patients are given careful instructions to follow after their surgery. First, 2 drainage tubes remain in for 7 days. The patient must drain fluid each 6 hours for 7 days until there is less than 25 cc/day in each drain. Pain medication usually includes vicodin or tylenol #3, antibiotics are given for 1 week and dressings are changed on day 1, and day 7. An abdominal binder is worn for at least 6 weeks to allow for compression and skin tightening.
