Paula is amazing, but let me start at the beginning. I woke up with a severe muscle spasm on the right side of my neck. It was very painful and the spasm was forcing my head to the left. Any attempt to move my neck to center or just a little to the right gave very painful shooting pains in the right side of my neck. So I scheduled an appointment with my regular Doctor, but my wife kept telling me to go see Dr. Santistevan (Paula). I realize that my name being Tom or Thomas is ironic, but I was absolutely the “Doubting Thomas” when it comes to chiropractors and especially acupuncturists. Anyway, after much prodding from my wife, I made an appointment to see Dr. Paula Santistevan, mostly to stop my wife from telling me to go. I really didn’t think anything Paula did would work, and I even told Paula as much. Being in the office, I was nervous as I have never had acupuncture before. Paula explained that she was going to place a needle into the top of my hand right between my thumb and index finger where it hurts to press. I said, like she hadn’t heard me the multiple times before, that it was my neck that hurt. I think I rolled my eyes but when she did place the needle, I felt a pretty intense feeling (something like an electric shock travel up my arm). Dr. Paula then asked me to move my head to the right. I, again, explained that “I can’t move my head to the right” without even trying as I thought if I did try to move, I would experience the pain that I had felt earlier. Dr Paula was persistent and again asked for me to turn my head to the right. I reluctantly started it very slowly. In doing this I realized that my spasm was gone. She then said that she was going to leave the needle in while she wanted me to move my head left to right to loosen the muscles. Dr Paula Santistevan returned after 10 minutes to remove the needle. She said that once she did this the spasm might come back, but not as strong as before. Further, she said that I again might feel a little pain/shock as she removed the needle. I was amazed! After the treatment my spasm was mostly gone. She told me that for the remainder of the day that I could put acupressure on that same spot and hold it as I moved my head left to right and it would continue to get better. This worked better than anything I have ever experienced in western medicine. That was over 10 years ago, and I have seen Dr. Paula for many more issues since then. I now have convinced my son to go as well. I am truly grateful to have been proven so wrong about this. My only wish is that I had tried this much earlier with my other muscular, bone, and joint issues. Dr. Paula Santistevan is amazing!!!
