Dr. Yael Varnado, affectionately called Dr. V, has garnered the respect of her peers, patients, and the public with her blend of passion-driven clinical knowledge and compassion. She has a passion for PREVENTION especially for young adults and a focus on women’s health and is known for her ability to deliver relatable, usable and relevant information. She is committed to educating the masses about how important it is to live healthy early on in life, so you can enjoy great health in the golden years.

As your total health correspondent and as a mother Dr. V is passionate about starting conversations and sharing information that will positively impact women, mothers and their children at every aspect of their lives and development. She is also an active advocate for preventative care, which helps stop heath problems before they start.

Dr. Varnado is currently a practicing physician at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She earned her medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City. She completed her residency in Anesthesiology in New York City at The Mount Sinai Medical Center and undertook advanced anesthesia fellowship training at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She is a board certified Anesthesiologist and has worked throughout New York City, Chicago, and Washington D.C. in busy tertiary medical centers.

Dr. Varnado is a published author of scholarly articles and has a research interest in the treatment of neuropathic pain and a particular focus in breast cancer research and prevention. She has conducted drug development and cardiovascular safety assessment research in the private sector at Merck and Co. Inc. and at the University of Arizona and University of Washington. She has lectured and presented her research findings at national meetings including the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Over the past ten years Dr. Varnado has made frequent guest appearances as a medical contributor on The Today Show, CNN, Dr. Oz, The Bethenny Show, Fox News, CBS, The Huffington Post, Cosmopolitan, Women’s Health, Refinery 29, Hot 97, Perez Hilton, and The Steve Harvey Show to name a few, weighing in on breaking news issues and hot health topics. For almost three years she co-hosted the medical health segment on Reverend Al Sharpton’s syndicated radio show “Keeping it Real” and shared platforms with notable figures including Dr. David Satcher, former Surgeon General and director of the CDC, Dr. Ian Smith, and Academy Award winner Phylicia Rashad. Dr. V has appeared on CBS News to raise awareness about the national health programs she has developed with the United Way to decrease health disparities. She also developed a health care maintenance program for Salvation Army residents recovering from substance abuse issues in urban Chicago.

As the founder of Get Checked 4 Life, Inc., www.getchecked4life.org a 501(c)(3) non-profit grassroots organization that provides at-risk and underserved communities across the nation with access to health services and resources, Dr. Varnado is focused on prevention and health maintenance for all. While working for Kaiser Permanente Dr. Varnado was honored by the American Medical Association for her commitment to community service and efforts to close the health disparity gap.
