Patient Reviews

He explained everything I asked. He was kind & caring. some years ago in Bremerton.I wish to contact him now to discuss how long the bovine valve "should" last. What are the symptoms my bovine valve is reaching its time for replacement? Do patients ever have a 2nd Open Heart procedure? I feel I could manage it now again in my early 80s. Breathing issues are becoming apparent like years ago. (They come & go.) Concern is bordering on worrying. Sincerely. Your former Patient!

About Me

Care Philosophy
  • Having performed over 2,000 open heart and thoracic surgeries, I understand that surgery should be a treatment of last resort. All of the patients that walk into my office have an illness that can no longer be managed with medicines or with stents. The patients who are facing open heart or thoracic surgery are almost always frightened. Mostly they are frightened by the unknown and by imagined pain, the fear of adverse outcomes and potential complications. In each case, I attempt to provide them with understandable information, outline a treatment plan and discuss the risks associated with each procedure. (In most cases, their imagined expectations far exceed the actual discomfort or risks.) I perform each procedure in its entirety and am literally there from skin incision until skin closure. I also coordinate the care they receive in the hospital from admission to discharge and am available by phone or visit until I am able to turn them back over to their primary provider. I treat each patient with the dignity and respect that I would wish for if I were ill. We place an emphasis on controlling pain and early mobilization after surgery. I truly believe that bad things happen to those patients who just lie in bed. I am blessed to work with a team of caring, motivated professionals who constantly strive to provide excellent care to our patients. I am proud to say that at Harrison we have achieved exceptional results and outcomes in the treatment of cardiac and thoracic disease and we have accomplished this with exceptional effort and teamwork.
