About Me

- Reem S. Abu-Rustum, M.D., graduated from medical school at the University of Florida in 1993 before completing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida in 1997. Dr. Abu-Rustum is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).After completing her residency training, Dr. Abu-Rustum served as an OB/GYN at the Center for Advanced Fetal Care in Lebanon, co-founded and presided over SANA Medical NGO and was on the Board of the Lebanese Society of Ob/Gyn. She has served on the AIUM Board of Trustees and was the Co-Chair of their Annual Convention, Chair of their Clinical Content Task Force and Secretary of the Obstetric Community of Practice. She is the past Chair of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology'??s (ISUOG) Basic Training Task Force and currently serves as a Trustee of the Board of ISUOG and has been voted ISUOG President-Elect. She has also served on the Education and Correspondence Committees of the Fetal Heart Society, the Education Committee of the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine (SMFM) and is the current Vice-Chair of SMFM's Patient Education Committee.She returned to her alma mater in 2018 as an Associate Professor in the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and is the Director of Ultrasound Education and Research.Dr. Abu-Rustum is the recipient of numerous awards and accolades. She is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She received the Shield of Honor of the Lebanese Order of Physicians Tripoli, the Shield of Honor of the Lebanese Society of Ob/Gyn, the Presidential Award of the AIUM, the Exemplary Teacher Award by the University of Florida College of Medicine in 2019 and 2020 and the J. Lee Dockery, MD Excellence in Teaching Award from the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Florida in 2021. She has a special interest in ultrasound, specifically the first trimester fetus and the fetal heart, in addition to ultrasound education and global outreach. She has served on two outreach missions to Sudan with ISUOG and authored the text A Practical Guide to 3D Ultrasound.
