Dr. Huliyar went over scans and very thoroughly explained possible outcomes and options associated with attempting a root canal on a crowned molar with both substantial decay under the crown AND a deeper infection. His description included strategic options for me (removing crown vs not), medical risks for those 2 options, and financial and subsequent treatment implications. Notably, (1) with not removing the crown higher infection risk by performing root canal by cleaning out decay as well as possible with the crown in place, and (2) with removing the crown higher risk that the tooth could be deemed not savable due to excessive decay preventing a stable new crown; so, the root canal might have to be stopped in favor of extraction recommendation and referral back to PC dentist. He described the issues very thoroughly and completely, including cost implications, and I felt well informed before the treatment started. This is exactly how I want to be treated when I see a dentist!
