I had the amazing experience of being seen by Dr. Gillespie 3 times: at a pre-Hernia operation visit, at the Hernia operation; and the post-operation visit. At each time, Dr. Gillespie displayed a truly wonderful ability to show compassion at my discomfort, the communication skills to discern and identify the appropriate level of explanation for my questions, and yet also have truly remarkable surgical skills. Often, someone experiencing a great surgeon is left with putting up with arrogance -- and that is a very acceptable thing with surgery. The surgeons I've experienced at Dignity at St. Joseph show that it is possible for a world-class surgeon to be a truly caring person. I feel very lucky that Dr. Gillespie was willing and able to help me.

  • My expertise include all aspects of general surgery, but specifically hernia care. I strive to approach each hernia in a solution based fashion that is patient centered. I see the occurrence of a hernia as a disease and not a simple circumstance. To that end, my initial goal will be to optimize all modifiable risk factors in anticipation of your hernia repair. I do employ state of the art technologies, but use an evidence based approach in their application. My goal is to create a personalized, tailored plan for each of my patients.I see myself as open minded. I hope to create a partnership with each of my patients that is based on mutual respect.
