What's missing from typical psychiatric care?
-Care is typically boiled down to diagnostic categories while bypassing confounding personal issues
-Clinicians tend to focus on the patient separated from the rest of his or her life. It is hard to imagine psychiatric difficult that are separated from the rest of the patient's life.
-Medical and psychiatric problems require responsiveness, with the provider available when he or she is most needed
-Care is often delivered by someone whose experience and interest covers only part of a problem.
Mental health conditions don't exist in isolation. They are generally complicated by interpersonal issues involving relationships, family, school, or employment. They may require psychotherapy, medication, or both. My practice consists of psychotherapy, medication as needed, and medical consultation as appropriate. My work is comprehensive, crossing the boundaries of psychiatry, systemic medicine, and psychology (psychotherapy)
