  • A graduate of Harvard College (magna cum laude) at Harvard University, and Tufts University, Dr. Helm is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, with a subspecialty certification in pain medicine. He has been practicing interventional pain management since 1982. A qualified medical evaluator, Dr. Helm works as a consultant and expert witness for multiple organizations. He serves in leadership positions with state-wide and national pain management societies, publishes, and lectures extensively. Dr. Helm has extensive experience with medical legal work, including both plaintiff and defense work. Dr. Helm has expertise in all areas of interventional pain management, including complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), also known as reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), implantable devices, interventional procedures and opioid management. Dr. Helm has worked with a standard of care issues, causation, apportionment, appropriateness of care and future medical care relating to interventional pain management. He has had experience in many venues, including state and municipal courts and regulatory agencies including medical boards and district attorneys offices. Dr. Helm has published extensively about the safety of procedures and standard of care issues.
