Dr. Gonzalez-Arias' Background
Sergio Gonzalez-Arias, M.D., Ph.D., FACS, is medical director of Baptist Health Neuroscience Center and chief of neurological surgery and a member of Baptist Health Medical Group, an organization of more than 180 physicians in multiple specialties closely aligned with Baptist Health South Florida. He is a graduate of the University of Zaragoza in Spain and completed his residencies at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center and the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Gonzalez-Arias is a professor and chairman of neurosurgery at Florida International University's Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. He is Board-certified in neurological surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has published extensively in medical journals and other scientific literature, including Neurosurgery and Neurosurgery Clinics of North America. He speaks at conferences worldwide on minimally invasive spine surgery and stereotactic radiosurgery, and has presented at the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He is a frequent guest faculty member at national and international symposiums, demonstrating the latest techniques in spine surgery to other physicians and healthcare professionals. Dr. Gonzalez-Arias chaired the international committee of the Joint Council of State Neurosurgical Societies and is a past president of the Florida Neurological Society.
