I attended FRC in 2006-2007 and again in 2019 when I sustained a relapse after 10+ years of sobriety. Without Dr. Ken Thompson (former medical director), Dr. Scott Teitelbaum (current medical director) and their multifaceted team of clinicians and experts in addiction psychiatry, I most likely would have joined the many others who have succumbed from this disease. It was not until recently I fully came to appreciate how fortunate I was to have been afforded the opportunity to attend FRC for treatment. It saddens me to see some of the disparaging comments and unfounded negative reviews written by people who are obviously as sick, angry and resentful as I was when I was placed under a Marchman Act by Dr. Teitelbaum in 2006. In my opinion, UF's Florida Recovery Center is among the best programs addiction psychiatry has to offer. Not only did this program preserve my licenses to practice law and veterinary medicine, they saved my life. And for that, I am forever grateful.
