I had been told that my fourth time with stage 4 cancer that had metastasized to my liver was only treatable with chemotherapy. No options for surgery or anything else by the time I had gotten referred to Dr. Kalva by a liver surgeon. Dr. Kalva read and knew my entire health history (and it is long and complicated!) before I ever saw him for my first appointment. Then he answered every question that I faxed him in advance (I think it was about 28 questions) patiently and thoroughly. He had even researched novel treatments for my rare cancer and had conferred with other doctors throughout the country before I met him. What doctor does all of that? Mind you, I went to nursing school and I come armed with a ton of questions for every cancer appointment. Dr. Kalva was patient and caring. He is my go to quarterback. He's even called me back when he's been on vacation. Again, what doctor does that nowadays? If I get cancer back again, Dr. Kalva will be the very first doctor that I contact.
