In 2021 I had TKA that got infected and had several remedial operations until it was replaced with 2 stage revision. For 3 years I've had worsening unbreakable adhesions, stiffness, and pain. Saw 3 ortho surgeons that specialise in revisions/problems after replacement and no one had any suggestions other than 'live with it'. I determined that Dr Abdel at Mayo Clinic was the leading expert with great success in this area, and my surgeon referred me there. Best Decision Ever. He had reviewed all my previous medical records prior to my visit and discussed my case with my [excellent] local surgeon. Within 30 minutes he identified the problem--a very long tibial implant rod had loosened causing pain and inflammation, and inflammation caused/causing adhesions. He could not have been nicer and more supportive and encouraging, assured me I was not imaging the pain and stiffness, and was willing to do the surgery to fix it. He ordered extensive tests to rule out any possible infection and has been very responsive, despite being very in-demand. He has a great reassuring and professional bedside manner. He explained that there were several options that needed to be considered based on further tests and he would include my surgeon and me in the evaluation of options. I couldn't be more pleased that I found Dr Abdel and that he is available and willing to fix the problems with my knee.
