I presented at about 8 p.m. on a Saturday. I checked in at the VA Medical Center in West Haven. I was attended to promptly, x-rayed, diagnosed, treated, and released at about 2 a.m. I'm a 79 y.o. combat veteran with 16 historic events that required general anesthesia, and more than a half-dozen visits to various Emergency Departments. This visit involving Dr. Lemi Luu ranks as one of the top two. I was listened to with care and attention, and I got to participate in every decision as treatment progressed in stages, with waits to see consequences between stages of intervention. I've learned true experts have these attributes: they can solve problems; explain their reasoning; learn from experience; determine relevance; re-structure their knowledge in new circumstances; break the rules as required; and their performance degrades gracefully at the boundaries of their knowledge. Dr. Luu has all seven of these attributes.
