She completed a residency in internal medicine, including a chief medical resident year, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala. She completed her fellowship training in clinical immunology and rheumatology at UAB, where she remained on faculty for 18 years.Dr. Hughes is originally from Ormond Beach, Fla. She and her husband, Robert, have two children, George and Charlie. In her spare time, Dr. Hughes enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, music, and attending Auburn University sporting events.
