Bio

I have been a practicing anesthesiologist for thirty-three years. Since 1979, most of my time has been spent taking care of patients at McLaren Greater Lansing & McLaren Orthopedic Hospital [Ingham Regional Medical Center]. My hospital is a 400+-bed community hospital complex and teaching institution. I am in a private group practice and our anesthesia department administers anesthesia for approximately 30,000 surgical procedures per year. My primary responsibility is in the area of cardiac anesthesia where our department is responsible for the administration of approximately 300 cardiac anesthetics per year. For twenty-one years I served as the Director of Cardiac Anesthesiology. Besides the hands on administration of cardiac anesthesia, I am board certified in Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography. In addition, I administer general and regional anesthesia for other surgical procedures, as well as the direction and supervision of nurse anesthetists and anesthesiology residents.I have been an active participant in the clinical teaching of residents, interns and students affiliated with the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. I began and participated as the primary presenter in a Monthly Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Lecture Program for the anesthesiology residents and students at Ingham Regional Medical Center. My past administrative responsibilities and accomplishments include the formation and direction of a monthly Cardiac Anesthesia and Surgery Joint Conference with our cardiothoracic surgeons and the implementation of Guidelines for Anesthesia Resident Teaching and Evaluation in Cardiac Anesthesia. Also, I helped develop a Medical Residents Invasive Monitoring Rotation at our institution. The most recent initiative was the implementation of a Perioperative Cardiac Risk Assessment and Beta Blocker Protocol for the surgical patient. I have served as Chairman of the Critical Care Committee with the responsibilities of coordinating and implementing policies specific to our respective critical care units. I have served as Vice-Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia, as well as Chairman of the Credentials Committee. I am a past member of the Board of Trustees, and immediate past Co-Chief of Staff at Ingham Regional Medical Center. I have served on several committees throughout our institution.Besides my clinical and teaching responsibilities, I have been extremely active
