About Me
Care Philosophy
- Dr. Downie takes care of both adult and pediatric patients with diseases encompassing all aspects of the ears, nose, and throat. His special interest include: nasal, sinus, voice, & swallowing disorders, thyroid & salivary gland disease, snoring & sleep apnea, and benign & malignant tumors of the head and neck. Joshua M Downie received his B.S. in experimental psychology from The University of South Carolina in 2001 while performing research in behavioral neuroscience and graduating near the top of his class. During his undergraduate years, Dr Downie became a certified PADI Divemaster (scuba) and developed an interest in long distance running prior to completing the Honolulu marathon. He received his M.D. from The Medical University of South Carolina in 2006, where he was recipient of the Deans Scholarship and co-founded a free medical clinic for the underserved population in the South Carolina low country. Dr Downie completed his general surgery internship and residency in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago. While in residency he worked at the prestigious Children's Memorial Hospital and Cook County Hospital, presented research at the annual OTO-HNS Academy Meeting, and scored in the greater than 90th percentile on the yearly inservice training examination. His training includes all aspects of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery including minimally invasive endoscopic CO2 laser procedures of the throat and upper aerodigestive tract, minimally invasive thyroid & parathyroid surgery, and the use of ultrasound technology in diagnosis and treatment of diseases in the head and neck. Dr Downie is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, American Rhinologic Society, and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy.
