He completed his fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Dr Martinez earned his bachelor of science in nursing at the University of Alabama prior to becoming a surgeon. He practiced nursing for 3.5 years as an emergency room nurse prior to enrolling in medical school. Furthermore, he was a patient care technician prior to becoming a nurse. He is bilingual, and fluent in written and spoken Spanish.
