Dr. Phan's personal qualities are outstanding: He generates warmth, genuine interest in the patient (as a person), and intelligence. He does not allow the professional purpose of the visit to undermine the immense need for him to realize that success in such a delicate moment depends on patient and doctor's mutual acceptance and connection.
